Sharing experiences with new Cosmic Cafes We just experienced our first Cosmic Cafe on the last Saturday in January in Rocklin, CA (25 miles east of Sacramento). We had 13 participants (our target limit was 12). We've received many more inquiries so we are planning to launch a 2nd CC in downtown Sacramento. It was the most power spiritual experience I've had in decades with so much heart felt sharing. Our process was to share some thing that made a spiritual impact on their lives during 2007. We shared books read, poetry, dark nights of the soul, memorial services, YouTube UK Opera Singer, original music from an Israeli women and so much more. We plan to meet monthly and encourage participants to bring their original creative works of music, poetry, writing and real life stories. Our focus is in "Authentic Sharing from the Heart" and "Deep Listening with the Soul". Our meeting ran about 3 hours which included about a 40 minutes discussion and agreement on the ground rules for the CC process. Just held three CC's, two at my house and one at Oklahoma City University. The first one was attended by over 40 people, the second about 25 (during a rainstorm) and the third about 250 attended. The first was promoted as a speaker/discussion event with meditation and a potluck, and live middle eastern music. The second also had a main speaker/discussion, ethnic potluck, meditation/stillness, and live music, which was a harp and flute duo. The third was the showing of the film, "Joyeux Noel" with a discussion and a reception following. There was a little bit of media coverage on the third CC. These have been great fun and quite meaningful gatherings as people are nurtured on all levels; body, mind, and spirit. My intention was to provide not only intellectual stimulus but also time for sharing, avenues of social interaction, creative inspiration and entertainment, and nutrition for the body. There are so many ways to create a Cosmic Cafe. It's really infinite in its potential. Peace, oh peace, Barbara |
